This website gives some suggestions onto the best ways websites are user-friendly.  A lot are pretty self-explanatory and maybe considered obvious, but it's nice to have a consolidated list to make sure we're adhering to every part to make it the most user-friendly.
Fast load times may be hindered by adding a video component, unfortunately, but I think it's still worth trying at least to add a video to the intro page to make it more pleasing to visit.

1. Mobile Compatibility
2. Accessible to All Users
3. Well Planned Information Architecture
4. Well-Formatted Content That Is Easy to Scan
5.  Fast Load Times
6. Browser Consistency
7. Effective Navigation
8. Good Error Handling
9. Valid Mark-Up & Clean Code
10. Contrasting Colour Scheme
11. Usable Forms

This website gives a few different styles of video introductions on websites.  Since Adobe flash is falling out of common favor, we can use one of these options that is compatible with mobile devices, which would be ideal.  Maybe we can add one in flash for the desktop version, if we d

Integrating Clinical trial Participant design with Crohn's Promise App

6/26/2013

I was working with Jeremy today and we spoke about the different projects we are doing.  He described to me the Crohn's promise app that he is working on that would have people report their symptoms to the app.  I was wondering if we could integrate the 2 designs that we are working on separately.  It would be best to target people that are experiencing the symptoms the trial drug is supposed to cure.  This way, people who would be willing to try the drug are targeted instead of just posting an ad or just having a website running that many people wouldn't be compelled to visit on their own.
I think the best design is to have people report their symptoms on either an app or online via a website and have trial medications advertised to those people who are experiencing the symptoms the drug is looking to cure.  We can create a website and app for the website if necessary.  I know this is pretty far down the line but I was just wondering what our idea of the direction we are going to take is.

More User-friendly Design In Webpages Seeking Clinical Trial Patients

I think one thing we should add to our webpage was discussed when I met with Dr. Atreja on the first day.  Add a video that describes the context of the study and the effects of the drug by the doctor who is heading the trial.  There will of course be text summaries as well, but the video gives people the chance to see exactly how the doctor wants the study to come across.  I think it would be relatively easy to get a video from the doctor, especially when a camera is present in almost everyone's pocket (the phone of course!).  We can edit a video together to make it look visually pleasing as well (can also be done from a lot of phones themselves).  I think it will be able to get more people to at least understand what the study is for and the risks involved, and hopefully we can prove that knowledge is power! (our power perhaps but still).
